Training Session at Semakau

I was backpacking in Vietnam for the two weeks in Dec hence my apologises for the lack of posting. It was truely an enjoyable trip! ;p

Anyway, last Saturday, we were at Semakau holding a training session for the volunteers from various schools. Here is LK doing a brefing before we start.

An interesting find today was this unknown sea cucumber. Update by RY as Stichopus vastus.

Here is the belly of it with an interesting design.

Here is a squid from the genus Sepioteuthis, often mistaken as a cuttlefish because of their fringing fins around the body.

Here is a marine spider, Desis martensii.

An interesting find by one of the students, a hairy crab having a meal out of a bristleworm!

Nearer the sandy shore, we found two pairs of clown-like anemone shrimps, Periclimenes brevicarpalis were found underneath an anemone.

Lastly, at the muddy zone, we found a mangrove horseshoe crab, Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda. They can be easily told apart from the coastal horseshoe from its dark colouration and rounded, smooth tail.

Lastly, a group photo of Dunman High students. As you can see, the skies are gloomy for the entire trip but thankful, there were was no rain. A perfect weather for an intertidal walk!
